Grammar Swimmers Earn State Selections at 2024 Open Water Championships | Sunshine Coast Grammar Swim School

Sunshine Coast Grammar Swimming Club achieved outstanding success at the 2024 Queensland Open Water Swimming Championships, held on 12 October at the Oz Ski Resort in Coolum. Seventeen swimmers from the club took to the water, including nine Sunshine Coast Grammar School students, who collectively earned the club an impressive fourth place in the overall point score.

Leading the way, several swimmers delivered medal-winning performances across the 2.5km, 5km and 7.5km events against the best open water swimmers in the region.

Following their remarkable achievements, Rylee Smith (Year 10) and Jake Hammond (Year 11) have been selected for the Swimming Queensland Open Water Team and will represent Queensland at the WA State Open Water Championships and the WA Open Water Series at Coogee Beach on 23 November.

Joining the team in WA will be Year 11 student Daisy Quinn, who has been selected by Swimming Australia to compete in the Championships. Sunshine Coast Grammar’s Head Coach, Luke Stafford, was also named Head Coach for the Queensland team, marking his third consecutive year in this role.

With a tradition of excellence in open water events, Sunshine Coast Grammar Head Coach shared his pride.

“Our swimmers and coaches have once again demonstrated their incredible dedication, strength, and sportsmanship. We are so proud of their achievements and wish them the very best as they represent Grammar while wearing the maroon cap of Queensland.”
